What Skip Size Do I Need?
Imagine the situation: you know you have rubbish and items you want to get rid of, but you either don’t have room in the car or you don’t want to have to make multiple journeys just to get rid of it.
That’s why skip hire is such a handy option for all homeowners.
At Reston Waste, we deliver your skip on the agreed day and then collect it when you tell us it’s full. It’s less hassle for you and it’s better for the environment.
But next, you might ask yourself “what skip size do I need?”, and so we’re here to answer that question with our handy guide.
What skip size do I need for a sofa?
Recent rule changes mean that items containing persistent organic pollutants (POPs) cannot be disposed of in our skips — which pretty much rules sofas out. Instead, we can collect these items separately with a small charge per item.
If, however, your sofa is a metal or wooden frame with removable cushions, you should be able to use our 4-yard skip (or larger if you have additional waste) to place just the frame into. See our rules on what you can put in a skip for more details.
What skip size do I need for home improvements?
Small home improvement projects, such as taking out old kitchen or bathroom fittings, can create a variety of waste to dispose of. Our 4 and 6-yard skips are ideal for small renovations, while larger construction projects such as extensions or demolition work might require an 8-yard skip to handle all the rubble and earth associated with such work.
What skip size do I need for a mattress?
Mattresses are items we can accept in our skips but at £30+VAT for each mattress, so please let us know if you wish to use our skips to dispose of these items. In terms of skip size, it depends on the mattress.
For single-size mattresses, our 6-yard skips should do the trick, while bigger or more oversized mattresses may need to go in a slightly larger skip. Being able to fold down and compress a mattress with heavier waste on top could help you save space.
What skip size do I need for garden waste?
Skips for garden waste clearance are dependent on the type of waste and the size of your garden. For tidying a small garden, including hedge trimmings, grass and leaves, you may only need our 4-yard skip, but for all those items plus larger items, like an old shed, we recommend 8-yard skips.
What skip size do I need for a garage clearance?
A garage clearance is no easy task since you’ll likely be digging through some long-forgotten items and weighing up what you want to keep and what needs to go. The truth is, it depends on the type and amount of waste you have in your garage.
We offer both small and medium skip sizes, with a 4 or 6-yard skip better to clear lots of small items or for a few heavy items, while 10, 12 and 14-yard skips give you a bigger capacity if everything has to go and you have multiple bulky items.
What skip size do I need for a house clearance?
Whether you’re a landlord looking to overhaul a property or you’ve just purchased a home and want to clear things to renovate, a skip is going to be crucial to any house clearance.
If you’re only clearing out one room in the house, a 4 or 6-yard skip is suitable enough. With multiple rooms to clear and bulky furniture items as part of that work, our 8, 10 or 12-yard skips should give you more capacity. Should your clearance project extend to tearing out fixtures and fittings throughout the entire property, then consider a 14-yard skip to make sure it can all fit.
What is the most popular skip size?
One of our most popular skip sizes for domestic projects is our 6-yard skip, but that doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone. To avoid finding yourself needing a second skip, or hiring a skip that is larger than you need, you can get more advice on the best skip size from our team. We’ll be able to recommend a skip based on what you tell us you need to dispose of.
